The on-going expansion work on the Lagos-Ikorodu road which has dualized the 8-lane road will be completed before October 2014 a senior official of the state ministry of works has revealed to National Weekender. According to our source who pleaded anonymity His Excellency Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola has fully mobilized the contractor handling the road and it is expected that the job will be finished on record time to help ease off traffic within and around the metropolis.
The road which will also be a link to Ijebu Ode from the roundabout of Ikorodu towards Odoguyan straight to Ogun State is expected to be taken care of by the Federal Government since it is a Federal road but if the plan of Lagos and Ogun State governments workout the road could be a joint project of the two APC states.
Our source speaks, “His Excellency has told the contractor handling the Lagos-Ikorodu road expansion work which started from Mile 12 Bridge down to Ikorodu roundabout to speed up work as he hopes to commission the project on or before October 30. The contractor is up and doing because from the look of things the job is already nearing completion. Perhaps the only snag to slow down work till the end of September is the rain. It does appear the rains will come heavy this year since it has started early.
“But inspite of that we still expect work to be completed in record time because the contractor has been fully mobilized. The road has to be ready because it is a major link road to Ogun State, talking about the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode axis. Though we expect Ogun State government to handle the other side but only if the Federal Government allows because it is a Federal road else both Lagos and Ogun State can sort it out.”
