NDLEA arrests 164 drug suspects in Katsina

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it arrested 164 people for drug-related offences in Katsina State in 2013.
This information is contained in a statement issued by the NDLEA Commander in the state, Maryam Gambo, in Katsina.
The statement stated 146 suspects were males and 18 were females.
Gambo said 1 110.7kg of cannabis sativa and 400.8 kg of psychotropic substances were seized from the suspects during the period.
She said the command had rehabilitated 440 drug addicts to make them useful members of the society.
Gambo said 77 people were prosecuted, 72 convicted, while five were acquitted.
The commander said the agency was able to achieve the record through intelligence gathering, raids, and stop and search and border patrol operations.
Gambo called on parents, religious leaders and other stakeholders to join hands with the command in its fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
She also called for continued synergy with other security agents to combat drugs abuse and trafficking in the state.
